The YaJagoff! Podcast - All about Pittsburgh

All about the cool stuff going on in Pittsburgh! There are a lot of podcasts, or PAWDcasts as you might say in Pittsburghese, but none this focused on what’s happening in Pittsburgh. Co-hosts John Chamberlin and Rachael Rennebeck talk with guests about food, entertainment, current events and, of course, Jagoffs! This weekly podcast is based on the Pittsburgh humor blog, YaJagoff.com.

Nov 5, 2018

Summary: The tragic day, in which every Pittsburgher recalls in October, has reached its one-week mark.  The community building, congregation healing, and overall #PittsburghStrong journey continues. John and Rachael sip and quite frankly sob at The Coffee Tree Roasters in Squirrel Hill with Owner Jean Grice along with Aaron Martin of WPXI and David Kaplan of WTAE to understand the reporter’s role in a tragic episode like the one in Squirrel Hill last week.

Music: Jess Klein, “Ready, Ready” from her Mr. Sweaters album

SPONSOR: Total Sports Enterprises is supporting the Mineo’s Pizza and 93.7 THE FAN initiative on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with hopes of more community building.  Join us at Mineos on Wednesday, November 14th for a silent auction with all proceeds benefitting the victims’ funds.  Visit uncoversquirrelhill.com for more ways to help prove that Pittsburgh is stronger than hate.  Visit TSEshop.com where every day is game day.

WHAT WAS ON THE BLOG? Kids view of the tragic events, sheeshy Nashville showers and airport airings.

Question of the day: One anecdote that is most impactful of that day?

06:42 Jean Swoope: Family owner of six The Coffee Tree Roasters in Pittsburgh, discusses her longevity in the Squirrel Hill location. Like many local businesses, Jean provides insight on how her business, employees and friends of the community were affected on the day of the Tree of Life shooting as well honoring one of her regular customers whose life was taken abruptly that tragic day through fond memories.

15:48  David Kaplan: A reporter of WTAE, David reflects on his accounts through a reporter’s point of view and as a Jewish man in the Pittsburgh community. He discusses his duty as a reporter as well as shining a light on how Pittsburgh comes together stronger in the wake of tragedy.

Aaron Martin: Aaron, reporter of WPXI, recounts his involvement as a reporter on the first moments of reporting of the shooting. He discusses his personal perspective as well as the stories he captured in the aftermath of The Tree of Life Shooting.

45:46 Jean revisits the goose-bump driven story about her coffee location being on lockdown and how those involved reacted.
