Back in the studio! Well, all but Tasha from The Food Tasters. She is suspiciously missing and Denise Schuster, a supposed “food expert” has barged her way in. Chef Donato Coluccio of the Capital Grille (Pittsburgh) stops by to try and explain how/why Craig and John got invited to be Food Judges for the Steel Chef Challenge event on June 12th for the Community Liver Alliance. Then we talk to some of Pittsburgh’s comedy elite, Gab Bonesso and John McIntire about, well… a ton of stuff. And, since we’re just past prom season, all of our guests have prom stories!

“Kennywood’s Open!! (and so is the Whale)”

Nick Paradise and the gang at Kennywood Park invited us out to the grand re-opening of the Noah’s Ark attraction… new whale mouth and everything! We had a chance to go through the new exhibit, Potato Patch Fries and interview a bunch of interesting Pittsburghers as they boarded the new ark 2-by-2 Pittsburgh style! Two artists, two Primanti Sandwiches, two ballet dancers and…well… you get it, dontcha? See the list of notables in the show notes! Everyone’s telling favorite Kennywood stories and “Kennywood Outfit” stories!

Episode 23 Line-up: “Kennywood’s Open!! (and so is the Whale)”
Episode Music: Donora “Put Your Neon On”

00:57 Nick Paradise, head of Marketing and PR of Kennywood Park. If Pittsburgh was hit with a flood, what would WE want on our ark? Nick gives the details of the new Whale’s Mouth and new exhibit.
04:58 Tasha from The Food Tasters is eating Potato Patch Fries at the same table as Pittsburgh icon, Rick Sebak! What happened to her at the Log Jammer in Junior High?
09:04 1 of 2 Steelers to board, Craig Wolfley. How fast was he able to throw the baseball (and throw his shoulder out?)
12:21 Two comedians! Comedian Aaron Kleiber & sketch/improv comedy pro Missy Moreno. What does Missy say the Noah’s Ark horn is saying to her?
15:10 Two Pittsburgh artists! D.S.Kinsel and Julie Mallis of Boom Concepts. D.S. nails the ending AND says “nebby!”
18:35 Pittsburgh Mayor, Bill Peduto. Should the Noah’s Ark horn be the new Penguin’s goal horn? (He shuts me down!)
20:37 Geno & Bryan, famous Kennywood staffers from the WQED Kennywood Memories Special, took cheese fries on board!
21:54 Kent “Teke” Tekulve from the Pittsburgh Pirates & now Root Sports-Pittsburgh. What was his favorite ride?
23:26 Curt Wooton & Chris Preksta from “Pittsburgh Dad.” Did they do the Kennywood Outfits? Oh yeah, including a fanny pack!
26:26 Daniella & Curtis from the Pittsburgh Ballet. Wait! She got motion sickness from Noah’s Ark?
27:19 KDKA-TV’s Dave Crawely was there reporting on the happenings just like us and, well, he’s a Pittsburgh icon so we got his Thunderbolt story (but he didn’t rhyme it!)
28:50 2 of the 3 children of comedian Aaron Kleiber, Rebecca & Luke “The Nuke!”
29:59 Scott Simmons of Scarehouse! 2 Pittsburgh Zombies boarded Noah’s Ark. No surprise, he loves the dark rides! Noah’s Ark has deep meaning for him!
33:08 Rick Sebak!! We get to ask him HIS favorite ride and Kennywood story!
36:18 What’s last? Two Primanti Brothers sandwiches! Unfortunately there is no galley serving

But, it always rain on the Arts Festival, so much so, that you can plan your planting around it! So we have Hal B. Episode 22 Line-up: “Raining on the Arts Festival”

Episode Music: Josh Herbert, “California”

00:45 We have a roomful of people for this podcast. Craig’s boys are doing baseball and failed science projects… something other than the standard baking soda volcano.
07:10 Hal B. Klein, Pittsburgh Magazine Associate Editor is on the phone from California, about the Pittsburgh’s Best Restaurants Party at Heinz Field, June 6th.
Use the code PARTY to get a discount on your event tickets.
Does Hal have a failed science project story?
16:40 The 3 Rivers Arts Festival is coming, June 3rd -12th. Sarah Aziz, from the Cultural Trust, goes over the event highlights and, probably, has the best (spoiler alert) failed science project story.
27:03 We pit Sarah against WTAE-TV meteorologist, Ray Petelin. We ask why it rains on every Arts Festival. He actually brought stats - festival weather stats!!!!! And, of course, he has a failed science project!
42:10 Wrap-up but nobody wants to go home! Sara doesn’t have a ride and Ray likes us (we think).
Our buds, The Food Tasters, pay homage to TJs Pub, Wilk’s Eats and Montana’s Rib and Chop House for support during #NationalBurgerMonth.

The #KetchupPizza Episode

00:53 How low have you gone when having a pizza craving? Sean from SeansRamblings.com wrote about, in his younger days, using ketchup to make homemade pizza bagels.

We have Jack who is 11 years old (because it’s our 11th episode)

04:25 We play “Tasha or Tori.” This episode, we have Tori Mistick of WearWagRepeat.com talking about:

The Omni William Penn’s 100th Bday Celebration

There is a fashion show on Thursday March 10th showcasing fashion through the decades
Tori will be modeling in it along with fellow Pittsburgh women in media.
The featured boutiques are Carabella of Oakmont, Number 14 Boutique in Lawrenceville and Chico’s.
This is a big year for birthday celebrations, it’s also the City’s bicentennial! So, get your party hats and dancing shoes ready!

11:51 Patrick Hogan of the 412Project which features local Instagram photographers in open spaces!

Where can you see all of the pics?
How can you stay updated on InstaMeets?
Has Patrick ever made a #KetchupPizza?

20:40 Pittsburgh’s own (but internationally famous) Podcaster Professor BuzzKill, “History Myth Buster” Podcast

What makes him such and expert?
Who are the biggest Jagoffs in history?
Who, in history, was known as a Jagoff but wasn’t in real life?
Pittsburgh history myths? Is the bomber in the Mon for real?
Has Professor BuzzKill ever made a #KetchupPizza

34:48 John and Craig wrap-up.

Thanks to Sean of the SeansRamblings blog for today’s inspiration. Make sure you follow his blog.
We hear from Jack, our 11 year old guest listener!

Have you had pastries from Pennie’s Bake Shop & Espresso Bar? Whoaaaa!!!

Once again, we talk with our mouths full of scones, cookies, pecan rolls and…….
Thanks to The FoodTasters for the food (as always)

Don’t forget, we have a phone number, i.e. a heckling line. Call us 412-444-8JAG
